Monday, Monday

(sigh) Doesn't this sweet English village make you want to fly off to London today? Me too! And so I'm off to visit my dear friend S. who is a tawdry barmaid. Really. She bought a pub in February and moved from the Big City to the Charming Countryside. As for her tawdry behavior, well, it's legendary. Unstoppable. Unequaled -- even by my own, and I try.

I'm looking forward to trudging through the rain in my Wellies, having fish and chips with vinegar, drinking lots of tea and pint after pint (don't you think it's okay to drink wine from a pint glass?) I'll wave at all the bobbies in their smart uniforms and the babies that go past in prams.

Now that I've dispensed with nearly every English stereotype, here's the real deal. I'll meet up with M. in London and spend a day recovering from my flight and galavanting about with him -- he's quite the Man About Town. Then the next day, after a dinner that I hope might be here, I'll dash off to Great Cheverell in Wiltshire and spend time with S. and her mum and all their pub regulars. I'll get to eat loads of yummy food -- S. swears The Bell isn't a gastropub, but take a look at the menu and decide for yourself -- and maybe, if I'm really sweet and bring her loads of chocolate, she'll let me help out in the kitchen and pretend like I'm a chef!

Either way, I'm looking forward to nearly a week of frivolous drinking and loads of laughs. My arse might come back a few pounds heavier, but my heart will be the better for it.

p.s. I do have a few posts to keep you going during my absence, so come and visit every few days. And, you know, last time I checked England has high-speed Internet access, so maybe I'll even get motivated to do something other than eat chocolates during my week off...
