(sigh) Aren't they gorgeous? When S. was in town last week, we were standing outside the Christofle boutique just off Maiden Lane, waiting for Mr. Food Musings to finish up at work, and as S. lit a cigarette, daring the Grim Reaper to nab her early, I peeked in the windows at all the expensive trinkets on display.
Polishing a hole where my breath had made the window mist over, I pointed to two perfectly crafted objets d'art. "Look!" I breathed. "Aren't those sweet?"
After we made great fun of some of the more ridiculous items (thousand-dollar white coral candelabra, anyone?) Mr. FM appeared and we trotted off to dinner at Luella.
Much to my surprise, the very next night S. walked in my apartment door with a tiny olive bag dangling from the crook of her arm. As soon as I saw the Christofle logo, I knew that she had brought these tiny beauties home to me.
How I squealed!
And then proceeded to crack fresh pepper into one and pour sea salt into the other and walk around, offering both to my guests. They demurred, offering weak excuses about their champagne being plenty peppery already. I tried not to look crestfallen.
The outsides of my new spice pots are hammered silver and the insides bright blue and pearlescent. Tiny spoons rest on the rims, beckoning. From now on, we salt in style.

Oy... that's cute. Really cute. I don't often like the stuff at Christofle, but from time to time they have something so precious you just want to die.

I know, it's disgusting. One must only fall in love with small treasures, or one must cultivate sickeningly wealthy and generous friends. Otherwise, stay away from stores like this.

Oh, now I have another thing to add my "wants" list! These are just beautiful. I can see them on my table already...*sigh*
