tragedy

I have not eaten bacon in over a week. A WEEK! Diets suck. So do fat thighs. Diet, fat thighs, diet, fat thighs. We'll see who wins.

I eat Lean Cuisine and I'm not ashamed to admit it. (Well, maybe a little.) But I have found two good alternatives that use no preservatives and boast an ingredient list that is 99.999% familiar. Kashi contains whole grains and is sold at regular grocery stores, while Seeds of Change, an all organic, vegetarian line, is sold at places like Whole Foods.

Salted-butter caramel spread is the bomb. (slurp!)

Mr. Food Musings and I really want to spend a weekend in Healdsburg, traipsing through the leaf-coated sidewalks and smiling at the friendly small-town peeps. Oh, and we want to eat at Cyrus. Does anyone know of a local or nearby hotel that doesn't cost $600 a night? No B&Bs, I don't like other people all in my business or my breakfast.

As a matter of fact, I have 2 of the Kashi meals in the freezer to try. Thay look yummy!

Well, I work in Healdsburg, and it is a bit tough to find affordable lodging. If you don't mind "roughing it", there's the Day's Inn on Dry Creek Road by 101. Otherwise, hotels like the Holiday Inn Express down 101 in Windsor are a close alternative.

Doug & Nick will take great care of you at Cyrus. And it's hard to lose eating in Healdsburg - Zin, Ravenous, Dry Creek Kitchen, Barndiva, Cena Luna, etc.

For breakfast or lunch in particular, come to where I work - Plaza Farms on the square - which is a local artisan producer marketplace (Bellwether Farms Creamery, DaVero Olive Oil, Tandem winery, etc) with a restaurant in back called Bovolo. It's owned by John Stewart & Duskie Estes, who also own Zazu restaurant out on Guerneville Road in Santa Rosa. They've gotten to be THE place for breakfast in particular.

Charlotte, thanks for the info! That's great. A friend just recommended Bovolo to me, too, so if/when we head up we'll definitely make that our breakfast stop! It may have to wait till next year, as all the places are booked the weekend we can do it, but better late than never.

I was supposed to go to Healdsburg for wine tasting this aug but I had to go home instead for a funeral :(

My husband and his friends still went and they stayed in the Best Western and did a wine tour on bikes and had a lot of fun. They had to get a cab to get into town but that worked out fine...

Pssssst. Duskie Estes is going to be the guest chef at the Outstanding in the Field farm dinner in Petaluma on November 5.

Go to Bovolo and try some of her husband's housemade salume. He ROCKS, and I mean hard.
